Workshop 7: Alcohol's impact on mental health and wellbeing

Ageing Better

Updated: Feb 3

Ageing Better with an Active Mind launched their seventh workshop on Friday 26th of April 2024 in St Michaels, Aughton. The workshop, organised in collaboration with u3a UK (The Third Age Trust) Aughton and Ormskirk, provided an insightful discussion on alcohol's impact on health and wellbeing. Led by Jo-Anne Puddephatt from Edge Hill University, the session explored the relationship between alcohol consumption and mental health.

The session highlighted the varying drinking behaviours among individuals with mental health conditions, showing that those with severe conditions are more likely to abstain or drink harmfully rather than moderately. Attendees gained deeper insight into research findings on alcohol’s effects on mental wellbeing and actively participated in discussions, asking questions and sharing perspectives.

The workshop reinforced the importance of informed decision-making and open discussions about alcohol and wellbeing.
